Manatee County was created in 1855. It was named for the manatee or sea
cow. Manatee County is a county located in the state of Florida. As of
2000, the population was 264,002. The U.S. Census Bureau 2005 estimate for
the county is 306,779. Its county seat is Bradenton, Florida. Every
January, the Manatee County Fair takes place on the fairgrounds.
